A recruiter opens WhatsApp and finds two lines: “Hi sir, any vacancy?” and a file called CV.pdf. The candidate may be well qualified. The note still does not say which role they mean, what they do, or what they want next. A useful message answers those points in a few calm lines, then stops.

People in Doha, and people applying from abroad, use WhatsApp because hiring staff already live in the app. That habit does not make every number a public application desk. A short, specific, respectful note works. A vague ping, a pile of files, or a chase of question marks does not.

How Should You Message a Recruiter on WhatsApp?

Open with a normal greeting and your name. Say what you do and how many relevant years you have, or that you are a new graduate. Name the vacancy or the type of role. Add one concrete strength, then make one clear request, such as asking whether you may send your CV. Close with thanks. Leave passport numbers, salary history and your life story for later, and only if someone asks.

Is It Professional to Contact a Recruiter on WhatsApp in Qatar?

It can be professional. It can also be the wrong channel. The difference is whether that person, or that advert, invited this kind of contact.

WhatsApp fits when the vacancy prints the number, the employer says “apply on WhatsApp”, the recruiter already wrote to you there, or a colleague gave you the number for hiring and you can name them. A recruitment agency that publishes the number for candidates is also a fair reason to write.

It is a poor fit when you lifted a private number from an unrelated post, the advert says applications go only through a portal, or you keep writing to an employee who does not hire. Having someone’s mobile number is not the same as an invitation to send job requests.

First-contact decision matrix

What you knowA sound next step
The advert lists a WhatsApp number for this vacancyMessage that number about that vacancy
The advert says apply on the company site or email onlyUse that route. Do not add a private chat
The recruiter wrote to you on WhatsApp firstReply in the same chat
A colleague shared the number for recruitmentWrite, and name the person who referred you
You found a number with no hiring contextDo not message it about jobs
You already applied on the portalStay on that process unless the advert also allows WhatsApp

If you are unsure, use the route printed on the vacancy. A second channel can look like you ignored the instructions.

The 6-Part Recruiter WhatsApp Message Formula

One short structure covers most first notes. You do not need a speech. You need six pieces, in this order.

1. A plain greeting

Use the name if you have it: “Good morning, Ms. Huda.” If you do not, “Good morning” is enough. Skip “dearest sir”, “honourable sir” and strings of “sir please sir”. Respect does not need decoration.

2. Your name

“My name is Rashed Al-Kuwari.” The recruiter can then save you as a person, not as an unknown chat.

3. What you do

“I am a site supervisor with eight years in building projects in Qatar.” Or, if you are new: “I graduated in accounting this year and finished a three-month internship.” Do not borrow years you do not have.

4. Why this chat

“I am writing about the site supervisor role your company posted, reference QS-214.” A reason stops the reader guessing which of their twenty vacancies you mean.

5. One reason you may fit

“I have led finishing teams on two high-rise sites in Lusail.” One proof is enough. The CV holds the rest.

6. One request

“May I send my CV?” or “I have attached my CV for that role.” Then thank them. A request tells them what to do. “Check this” does not.

The order matters because a busy reader can stop after any line and still know who you are and what you want. A message that starts with a file, or with “Hi” alone, never gives them that chance.

Example: First WhatsApp Message to a Recruiter

Good morning, Ms. Huda. My name is Rashed Al-Kuwari. I work in Qatar as a site supervisor, with eight years on building projects. I am applying for the site supervisor vacancy your office advertised, reference QS-214. I have led finishing teams on two high-rise sites in Lusail. May I send my CV for that role? Thank you.

This note names the person, the job and a real piece of experience. It asks for permission to send the CV instead of dropping a file with no words. It does not push for a same-day answer or a promise of an interview.

Bad vs Better WhatsApp Messages

Short is good. Empty is not. The weak lines below are common because people are nervous and type fast. They fail because the reader still cannot act.

Weak lineClearer approach
HiGood morning, Mr. Nabil. My name is…
Any vacancy?I am asking about the storekeeper role you posted.
Send job detailsCould you confirm whether applications for that role are still open?
I need job urgentI am available to join after a 30-day notice period.
Check my CVI have attached my CV for the accountant vacancy.
Call mePlease tell me if you need any other document.
Reply pleaseThank you for your time.

“I need job urgent” describes stress. It does not describe a skill. “Send job details” gives the recruiter your task list. A better line asks one factual question. None of this means you should sound cold. It means the first message should help them place you.

Should You Write “Sir” or “Madam”?

If you know the name, use it. “Good morning, Mr. Hassan” is clear and polite. If you do not know the name, “Good morning” or “Hello, I am writing about the logistics coordinator vacancy” is enough.

You do not need “Dear respected sir”, “Dearest sir” or “Honourable sir”. Those phrases feel copied, and they still do not say who you are. “Madam” and “Sir” are not rude. They are just weaker than a name, and easy to overuse until the message sounds like a plea.

Avoid Sending Only “Hi” and Waiting

A lone “Hi” forces the recruiter to interview you before they know why you wrote. They cannot tell your name, the vacancy, or the reply you need. Many will not start that interview.

Send the full short introduction in the first bubble. Do not send “Hi”, wait, then “Hello?”, then “Are you there?”, then “Sir?”. Each extra ping asks for attention without adding information. If you already sent only “Hi”, send the proper introduction next. You do not need to apologise at length.

Why “Any Vacancy?” Is Usually Too Vague

A recruiter may cover several roles, several clients and several experience levels. “Any vacancy?” could mean a chef, a welder or a finance manager. They cannot match you to a file from that question.

Name your profession, your rough experience, where you are, and the kind of role you want. You can still ask about suitable openings. You just have to make “suitable” visible.

Good afternoon. My name is Lena Mathew. I am a civil engineer in Doha, with six years on building projects. I am looking at civil engineer or site engineer roles. May I send my CV if you have a suitable opening? Thank you.

That is still an open enquiry. It is no longer a blank request. Browse current jobs in Qatar first when you can, so the message points at real work rather than a general wish.

Should You Attach Your CV in the First WhatsApp Message?

Read the advert. If it says to send the CV on WhatsApp, attach it with the introduction. The file and the explanation should arrive together.

If nobody has asked for documents, introduce yourself and ask whether they want the CV. An attachment with no sentence is easy to ignore, and hard to file, because the reader does not know which job it belongs to.

Do not send CV.pdf alone. Do not send a full cover letter as a second essay in the chat. A few lines of context are the cover note. If you want a cleaner file before you attach it, you can build your professional resume and export a PDF with your name and target role in the file name.

Name Your CV File Professionally

The file name is part of the message. “Rashed-Al-Kuwari-Site-Supervisor-CV.pdf” tells a recruiter who it is and which role it supports. “Sara-Hassan-Accountant-CV.pdf” does the same.

Avoid “CV final.pdf”, “Resume new latest.pdf”, “CV NEW 2 FINAL FINAL.pdf”, “scan003.pdf” and “document.pdf”. Those names collide in a downloads folder. A clear name helps someone save and forward the right file. For what belongs inside the document, see CV mistakes that can cost you a job in Qatar and how to make a CV easier to screen.

Send the CV as a Document, Not a Screenshot

Send the CV as a document, usually a PDF, when the employer has not asked for another format. A single file is easier to store, search and pass to a hiring manager than a row of photos.

Skip blurry pictures of a printed CV, ten separate images, and dark scans. Some employers later ask for a Word file or a portal upload. Follow that request when it comes. Until then, one readable document is enough.

How Long Should the First WhatsApp Message Be?

Keep the first message short enough to read on a phone without scrolling through a biography. You do not need every certificate, every employer, a story about why you left, or a salary debate.

A few focused sentences are enough. The CV carries the detail. There is no magic character count. If the note answers who you are, which role you mean, why you might fit, and what you are asking, it is long enough.

Kind of notePractical length
First contactA short introduction, not a career history
Note with a CVA few lines that name the role and the file
Follow-upShorter than the first message
Interview confirmationDate, time, place or link, and thanks

What Information Should You Include?

Use what the vacancy needs. You will not use every item every time.

  • Your name
  • Your profession
  • Relevant years, or a degree and internship if you are new
  • Where you are now, if location affects the role
  • One specialty that matches the job
  • The vacancy title or reference
  • Availability or notice period, if it matters now
  • One clear request

A night-shift nurse and a finance manager do not need the same extra line. Add the fact that changes whether they can consider you. Leave the rest in the CV.

What Should You Leave Out of the First Message?

The first note is not an identity file. Leave out your passport number, Qatar ID number, full home address, bank details and family details. Skip a long salary history, complaints about your boss, and personal problems.

Do not attach identity documents nobody asked for. Application steps differ. A hospital may later need licences. A site may later need certificates. That is a later step, after you know who is asking and why. Early on, a CV is the normal document.

Should You Mention That You Are Already in Qatar?

If the role depends on someone who can start locally, “I am based in Doha” or “I am based in Qatar” is useful. It is a fact about availability, not a boast.

If you live outside Qatar, say so. Do not imply you are in the country when you are not. An honest line is safer than a surprise at the offer stage.

Good morning. My name is Arjun Mehta. I am a mechanical technician with five years in maintenance, and I live in Kochi, India. I can relocate to Qatar for a suitable technician role. May I send my CV? Thank you.

How to Mention Availability or Notice Period

Add availability only when it is true and useful. “I can join immediately” is right only if you can. “I am employed and have a 30-day notice period” is right if that is your contract. Do not write “immediate” because it sounds stronger.

You can put the line after your experience, before the request. You do not need to explain your household, your visa story, or why you want to leave.

Example: Applying for a Specific Vacancy

Good afternoon, Mr. Fadi. My name is Noor Al-Sulaiti. I am applying for the guest-relations supervisor role at your hotel, reference HOS-88. I have four years in front office in Doha, including two years as a supervisor. My CV is attached as Noor-Al-Sulaiti-Guest-Relations-CV.pdf. Please tell me if you need anything else. Thank you.

The reference number does the sorting. The file name matches the person. The request is simply to consider that application, not to call her tonight.

Example: Asking About Relevant Opportunities

An open enquiry still needs a target. “Any job?” is not a target. A trade, a level and a location are.

Hello, Ms. Reem. My name is Omar Haddad. I am an electrical engineer in Qatar with seven years in MEP on commercial buildings. I am interested in electrical engineer or MEP engineer roles. If you are hiring for that work, may I send my CV? Thank you.

He did not ask her to invent a job. He told her which shortlist he belongs on.

Example: Someone Referred You to the Recruiter

Good afternoon, Mr. Yusuf. My name is Hana Ali. Fatima Noor at Gulf Fit-Out suggested I contact you about QA/QC inspector openings. I have six years of architectural QA/QC on fit-out projects in Qatar. May I send my CV for you to review? Thank you.

Name the referrer only if they actually told you to write. A false referral is easy to check and hard to repair. If your contact asked you not to use their name, describe the introduction without inventing a title.

How to Reply When a Recruiter Messages You First

Good morning, Ms. Lina. Thank you for writing about the senior accountant position. I would like to hear more about it. Please tell me which documents you need, and which company the role is with. Thank you.

Interest first, documents second. Do not send your passport because a stranger used your name. Ask who they represent if the chat does not already say. A real recruiter can name the employer or explain why the client is confidential. Someone who refuses any identity, then asks for money or card details, is a reason to stop.

How to Respond If the Recruiter Asks for Your Expected Salary

Answer with your own range, tied to the package, or ask for theirs. Do not copy a figure from a friend or from a blog and present it as research.

Thank you. For this role, my expectation is QAR 8,000 to QAR 9,500 a month, depending on the duties and benefits. I am happy to discuss the total package. If you have a budgeted range, I would like to hear it.

Those numbers are only a sample of how to phrase a range. Use your real expectation. You can also ask, “Could you share the budgeted range for the position?” For a fuller way to handle the question in an interview, read how to answer a salary question in a Qatar interview.

How to Reply to an Interview Request on WhatsApp

Repeat the practical details so both of you share the same plan. This sample uses a fictional slot, not a date you should copy.

Thank you for the invitation. I can attend the interview on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at your West Bay office. Please tell me if I should bring any extra documents. I appreciate the opportunity.

If the interview is online, repeat the link or say you have received it. If a detail is missing, ask for that detail only.

How to Ask to Reschedule an Interview Professionally

Thank you for the interview time on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. I am not available then because of a commitment I cannot move. I am sorry for the trouble. I can attend on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. or Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Please tell me what suits you.

Give a short reason, not a long personal story. Offer real alternatives. Do not reschedule again and again. If you cannot attend any reasonable slot, say so plainly and thank them.

How to Follow Up After Sending Your CV

Good afternoon, Ms. Noor. I am following up on the procurement officer application and the CV I sent on Sunday. I am still interested in the role. I can send any extra information you need. Thank you.

One follow-up refers to the earlier message. It does not retell your career. Daily notes do not make a slow process faster. They make the chat harder to use.

When Should You Follow Up?

There is no national rule for the number of days. If the recruiter gave a time, wait until that time has passed. If they did not, leave a gap long enough for a working week to move, then send one note. Treat “about a week” as a practical habit, not a law.

A second follow-up is rarely useful unless they asked you to write again, or the advert’s closing date is about to pass and your first note may have been missed. After that, keep applying elsewhere. Hiring in Qatar often has several stages. How long hiring takes in Qatar explains why silence is not always a personal answer.

Should you follow up? A simple process

Did they give a timeline? If yes, wait until it has passed. If no, allow a reasonable gap, such as several working days.

Have you already followed up once? If no, send one short note. If yes, stop repeating yourself.

Does the advert invite calls, or did they ask you to call? If yes, use that instruction. If no, do not turn silence into a series of calls. Continue your search.

What If the Recruiter Read Your WhatsApp Message but Did Not Reply?

A read receipt, when the account shows one, means the chat was opened. It does not mean you were rejected. The person may be in interviews, the vacancy may have many applicants, hiring may be paused, or your note may not need an instant reply. They may answer later.

Wait, then follow up once if you still need a response. Keep applying to other roles. Do not send “??”, “Hello???”, “Why no reply?”, “Seen?”, “Sir please reply” or “I am waiting.” Those lines add pressure and no new fact. If a recruiter often opens CVs and stays quiet, the reasons are usually about fit and workload, which is covered in why a recruiter may view a CV and not call.

WhatsApp Message After a Job Interview

Good afternoon, Mr. Samir. Thank you for today’s interview for the project coordinator role. I enjoyed hearing about the handover work. I remain interested. Please tell me if you need any further information. Thank you.

Send it once, the same day or the next working day. Do not send a second thank-you, then a poem, then a sticker. For what to do when the silence lasts longer, use how to follow up after a job interview in Qatar.

How to Ask About Your Interview Result

Good afternoon, Mr. Samir. I am following up on my interview for the project coordinator position. I am still interested, and I wanted to ask whether there is an update on the process. Thank you.

Ask about the process, not for an offer by name. “When will I get the offer?” and “Why didn’t you select me?” assume a decision you have not been given. If they already promised an update by a date, mention that date.

How to Respond If the Recruiter Says You Were Not Selected

Thank you for telling me. I appreciate the time you gave the application. If a suitable vacancy opens later, I would be glad to be considered. I wish the team well with the hire.

You may ask, once, to be kept in mind for a similar role. Do not argue the decision in the chat or ask them to defend it line by line. A calm close leaves the door usable. If several applications end this way, look at why Qatar job applications get rejected before you change only your greeting.

Should You Send a Voice Note to a Recruiter?

Use text for the first contact. A recruiter can scan it, search it and forward a line to a colleague. A voice note makes them stop and listen, often in a noisy office, with no easy way to skim.

A voice note is reasonable if they ask for one, or if you are already in a conversation and they prefer it. Keep it short. Do not send a five-minute unsolicited recording of your career.

Should You Call After Sending a WhatsApp Message?

No reply is not an automatic reason to call. Call when the vacancy invites calls, the recruiter asked you to call, or you already agreed a time.

One agreed call is professional. Several missed calls in an hour are not. If the written route is the one they published, stay there.

What Time Should You Message a Recruiter?

Send a first message in ordinary daytime hours unless they have asked you to write at another time. Very late night notes and very early morning notes are easy to bury, and they can feel like pressure even when you did not mean it.

There is no single Qatar recruiter clock. Some teams work Sunday to Thursday. Others follow a different week. Hospitality and site roles may recruit outside an office day. The safe habit is to use the hours the employer states, and not to expect an instant reply outside them.

Friday is a weekly day off for many workplaces in Qatar, and a working day for others. Do not assume every recruiter is unavailable, and do not assume they owe you a weekend reply. If you are unsure, send the note on a normal working daytime and leave it.

MomentPractical choice
Weekday daytime, and you have not been told otherwiseA sensible time for a first message
Late night, and nothing is urgentWait until daytime
They just asked you to send the CVSend it then, because they asked
Their weekly day off, if you know itYou may send the note, but do not chase a reply that day

Should You Use Emojis?

A first recruitment message does not need emojis. Rows of folded hands, fire, hundred-point symbols or smiling faces add noise. A plain sentence is easier to take seriously.

One small, neutral mark is not a scandal. It is also unnecessary. If you are unsure, leave them out until you know the person.

Avoid Informal Chat Language

Write the words in full. “u”, “pls”, “plz”, “asap job”, “any vac?”, “snd details”, “CV chk” and “r u hiring?” look careless, and some readers will not decode them. Simple English is the right level: “I would like to apply for the accountant position.” You do not need long, fancy sentences. You do need words a stranger can read once.

Do Not Send the Same Generic Message to Dozens of Recruiters

“Dear Sir/Madam, I am searching any suitable job please help” can be pasted forever. It still fails every reader, because it never says why you chose them. Change at least the profession, the role and the reason you wrote to that person.

Messaging several recruiters is normal. Copying one empty note to all of them is spam. If a company asks candidates to use its career page, use that page.

Be Careful With Jobs Shared in WhatsApp Groups

A vacancy in a group is a forward, not proof. It does not by itself prove the employer, the recruiter or the job. Before you send documents, check the company name, look for an official site or a known careers page, and see whether the job details stay consistent.

If the only contact is a new number that will not say who they hire for, pause. For a wider check on offers that do not add up, read signs a Qatar job offer may not be genuine.

Warning Signs in Recruiter WhatsApp Messages

Most hiring chats are ordinary. A few are not. Treat these as reasons to verify, not as automatic proof of a crime:

  • They ask you to pay simply to secure the job.
  • They guarantee employment.
  • They ask for bank or card details before any real process.
  • They rush you and discourage questions.
  • They will not name the company or the agency.
  • The link looks unrelated to the employer they claim.
  • They want sensitive documents with no clear stage or reason.
  • The job title, salary and company name keep changing.

Stop and check through a channel you can confirm, such as the employer’s published phone number or careers page. A fee request tied to “guaranteed selection” is a reason to walk away, not a detail to negotiate in chat.

Do Not Send Sensitive Documents Too Early

A CV is a normal early document. Certificates may be reasonable when the role depends on them and a verified recruiter asks. A passport copy, Qatar ID, bank information, medical papers and other identity documents are different. Share those only when there is a clear, genuine reason and you know who will receive them.

WhatsApp is convenient. It is still a chat. Do not treat it as a safe locker for every scan you own. If a request feels early, ask what the document is for and which organisation needs it.

If You Are Currently Employed, Protect Your Confidentiality

You can write, “I am currently employed and would like my application kept confidential.” That is a fair request. It is not a promise they must legally make, so do not put secrets in the CV that would hurt you if the file travelled.

Do not send your employer’s prices, client lists, contracts or internal chats. Do not search for jobs on a company WhatsApp account or a work device if your employer forbids it. A fuller approach to a quiet search is in how to find a job in Qatar while you are still employed.

WhatsApp Mistakes That Can Hurt Your First Impression

Each mistake has a simple repair.

  1. Only “Hi.” Send the full introduction in that same chat.
  2. “Any vacancy?” Name your field and the level you want.
  3. A CV with no words. Add the role title in the caption.
  4. Repeated calls. Call only when they asked, or the advert says to call.
  5. Several bubbles in a minute. Put the point in one message.
  6. Chat slang. Use full words.
  7. A long life story. Leave history in the CV.
  8. A folder of unrelated certificates. Send the CV first. Add certificates when they ask.
  9. A needless late-night note. Use daytime unless they set another time.
  10. A wall of emojis. Use none on a first note.
  11. A demand for a reply. Ask once, then wait.
  12. False experience. Write only what you can defend in an interview.
  13. Complaints about your employer. Stay on the role you want.
  14. Early identity documents. Wait for a real, explained request.
  15. One generic note to everyone. Change the role and the reason.
  16. A profile name that is a joke or a blank. Use a name a recruiter can say in an office.
  17. The wrong company’s message. Read the last line before you send. A note about a hotel, sent to a construction recruiter, wastes both of you.

Check Your WhatsApp Profile Before Contacting a Recruiter

Look at the name they will see, the photo, and the about line if it is visible. A readable name is enough. You do not need a studio portrait. You should avoid a profile that is offensive, explicit, or so unclear that they cannot tell who wrote.

Check privacy settings if you do not want every new chat to see an old status. This is about a professional first glance, not about how you look.

The 10-Second Message Check

This is a check for you, before you tap send. It is not a claim about how fast a recruiter reads.

Can they tell, quickly:

  • Who you are?
  • Which role you want?
  • Why you might fit?
  • What you want them to do?

If any answer is no, fix that line. Then send it once.

Before You Press Send

  • Is this the right person for hiring, not a random colleague?
  • Do I know why I am writing to them?
  • Did I name the correct vacancy?
  • Did I introduce myself?
  • Is the note short?
  • Is the experience true?
  • Is the request clear?
  • Can a stranger understand the spelling?
  • Did I remove passport, ID and bank details?
  • Is the CV file name clear?
  • Is the right CV attached, if I am attaching one?
  • Is the time reasonable?
  • Did I skip emoji strings?
  • Am I holding back sensitive scans unless they are truly needed?

Questions Candidates Ask

Is it okay to message a recruiter on WhatsApp in Qatar?

Yes, when the vacancy, the employer or the recruiter has opened that door, or a real referral gave you the number for hiring. No, when the only instruction is a portal or email, or the number is private and unrelated to recruitment.

What should I say in my first message?

Greeting, name, profession, the vacancy or target role, one relevant fact, and a single request. Then thank them.

Can I ask “Any vacancy available?”

You can ask about openings, but add your field, level and location. “Any vacancy?” alone is too broad to match.

Should I send my CV immediately?

Yes if the advert says to send it on WhatsApp. Otherwise ask first, and never send a file with no explanation.

What should I name my CV file?

Use your name, the role and the word CV, as in “Hana-Ali-QAQC-Inspector-CV.pdf”. Avoid “final” and “scan003”.

Can I send a voice note?

Prefer text at the start. Use a short voice note only if they ask or the conversation is already underway.

What time should I message?

Ordinary daytime, unless they gave other hours. Do not expect an instant reply on their day off.

How long should I wait before following up?

Follow their timeline if they gave one. If they did not, a gap of several working days, then one note, is a practical approach. It is not a rule.

What if my message is seen but not answered?

Wait, follow up once, and keep applying. Read receipts are not a rejection letter.

Should I call after WhatsApp?

Only if they asked you to call or the advert invites calls. Do not ring because you are anxious.

How do I ask for an interview update?

Name the role, say you are still interested, and ask whether there is an update on the process.

Is it safe to send my passport or Qatar ID on WhatsApp?

Not at the first hello. Share identity documents only when a verified employer or recruiter has a clear reason and you know who will hold them.

How do I know whether a recruiter is genuine?

They can explain who they represent, the role stays consistent, and they do not ask you to pay for a guaranteed job. Check the company through a channel you did not receive only inside the chat.

Should I message multiple recruiters?

Yes, if each note fits that recruiter and that kind of work. No, if it is the same empty paragraph sent in bulk.

A Note You Can Send Without Chasing

The message that gets read is usually the boring one. It has your name, your work, the exact vacancy or a tight description of the work you do, and one polite request. It arrives in the daytime, with a PDF named after you, and it does not continue as a stack of “Sir?”

Use WhatsApp when the hiring process has already pointed you there. Use the portal when the advert says to use the portal. If nobody replies, follow up once, then spend the next hour on another real application. A recruiter can ignore a vague ping. They should not have to decode one.
